Forum for Particle & Microplastics Analysis with Raman
-
We are pleased to invite you to the Forum for Particle & Microplastics Analysis with Raman at the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research (IPF) in Dresden.
Experts from academia and industry who specialize in microparticle and especially microplastics analysis will provide introductions to the topic and its relevance. This will lead into a description of approaches for microparticle analysis and the utility of Raman microscopy in such studies. WITec scientists will then introduce the principles of instrumentation and software solutions for automated and comprehensive microparticle analysis with Raman microscopy.
In two hands-on sessions, participants will be able to see a WITec Raman microscope in action and get to know the ParticleScout and TrueMatch software solutions for convenient particle data analysis.
This one-day workshop will be of interest to scientists working in research, development or quality control in fields of application such as food science, pharmaceutics, environmental research and materials science.
If you would like to participate, please fill out the registration form below.
Attendance is free of charge.
Due to the ongoing corona virus pandemic, the workshop will be postponed.
The new date will be announced here in due time. -
Relevance of Microparticle Analyses
-
Microparticles are found in everyday products such as toothpaste, sun screen and paint and they serve as important ingredients in many medical, cosmetic or pharmaceutical products. Yet microplastic pollution is currently receiving widespread attention due to the potential risks it poses for ecosystems. Thus, microparticle analyses are of growing relevance in many fields of application that require microparticles to be quantified and characterized in various samples, such as foods and drinks, ointments, powders, sand, air and fresh or salt water. Common techniques for microparticle identification, especially in microplastic studies, include Raman and infrared (IR) spectroscopy, which are partially complementary. The main advantages of Raman spectroscopy are its insensitivity to water and its ability to analyze microparticles down to 1 µm in size.
We look forward to welcome you to a forum for scientific exchange and discussion about this timely and important subject.
